Gluten-Free eating with Manwich

I have always LOVED eating Manwich! But I don’t really like gluten-free hamburger buns. Recently I purchased a case of Manwich, and am enjoying different meals with it!

A really delicious one is using Manwich, instead of soup to make what some call a “Shepherd’s Pie.” I peel and steam some potatoes (about 4 or 5) until tender, then make mashed potatoes my adding a little olive or canola oil and some rice milk. I brown a pound of ground beef, drain and add the Manwich. Then stir in one can of drained green beans. In a oven-baking dish, first put the Manwich, ground beef and green bean mixture. Top with the mashed potatoes. (If you are not eating casein-free, you can add grated cheese to the top!) Bake at 350 degrees for about 1/2 hour.

Another way I enjoy Manwich is to cook some short-grain brown rice, and have my Manwich and ground beef mixture with it. Manwich goes well with brown rice. I LOVE the chewy texture!

I always loved Manwich sloppy joes, but never thought about making other recipes with it. The Shepherd’s Pie recipe sounds delicious!

i love Manwich too but GF I like to put if over a salad of Romaine lettuce add some corn and Manwich/meat mix…

Glad to hear it’s gluten free. Will try it and see if it agrees with me or not. I get sick very easily with my Celiac disease.

I was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease 20 years ago when I was 14, so Ive alwaYs had to watch what I eat. Then last month, I was diagnosed with Celiac. Devestated with this news I began to think of all my favorite foods and come to terms with a very long list of my favorite foods that i’d have to remove from life. Manwich sandwiches on burger buns or rolled with cheese in flour tortillas have always been a love of mine. I figure now I can replace flour tortillas with corn tortillas or I have discovered that some gluten-free breads are tasty if you spread it with butter and grill it like one would a grilled cheese sandwich.
So really devestated isnt really an appropriate adjective in the grand scale of things. Although, having so many food restrictions sucks, with a little imagination, we can still eat some of our favorite foods.

If you follow the directions and make it the normal way and then put it on top of any kind of noodle (gluten free italpasta penne is fantastic) it’s awesome.

I use Manwich to make the bottom part of Tater Tot casserole…it works great…just manwich with hamburger….then a layer of frozen corn and top with tater tots and cheese if you want and bake….super yummy….

I used to make make Manwich Sloppy joe mix and spread it on top of pizza dough and bake for my kids. They LOVED it. Now, I cannot eat regular pizza dough. However, I recently found gluten free pizza dough in the freezer section of my local grocery store. I think I’ll have to try this since I cannot have regular hamburger buns anymore either.

Kroger carries Udis hambuger and hotdog buns. They are awesome! Heat a little in microwave. Try it!

My father-in-law who has celiac disease loves to eat his sloppy joe on Fritos or potato chips. Just another idea for those gluten-free Manwich lovers. =)

I make it as it says and put it on top of Tostito’s, in the center, add cheese, microwave it to melt cheese, the add black olives and lettuce in a circle around the meat, then eat!
